The Libri Juliani Project

The Latin classes at North Central High School spend a lot of time talking about the influence of the ancient world on the modern.  Our students are now taking that talk and turning it into action.

In October 2008, all NC students were invited to participate in The Libri Juliani Project, sponsored by our chapter of the Junior Classical League (Latin Club).  Interested student authors and artists got from Mr. Perkins the text of an ancient Roman myth, which they could then either adapt into a story suitable for children or illustrate.  Submissions were reviewed by a panel of teachers, and the finalized book became available to purchase through the Internet at www.lulu.com/librijuliani

We are thrilled to announce that the students, parents, faculty, and community of North Central have contributed to this project in such an outstanding way that we were able to purchase 70 books for the children at the Julian Center!  THANK YOU to everyone who has been a part of this in any way!

100% of the profit from the sales of these books goes to the Libri Juliani account at North Central and will be used to purchase copies of the books to be read and given to children at The Julian Center.

Our motto is antiquitatem legere est videre futurum...to read the past is to see the future.  We are tremendously excited about the connections between the ancient and modern worlds and between the students of North Central and the larger community.  We hope you are, too.

The Julian Center

The Julian Center is a nonprofit agency providing counseling, safe shelter, and education for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life crises. Through outreach and consultation, we also seek to educate the community about the issue of domestic violence and its impact on all our lives.

Their programs and services are designed to contribute to a significant reduction in the incidence of violence against women and their children, to support survivors in healing, and to help break the intergenerational cycle of abuse.

The Shelter provides housing for more than 1,100 women and children annually, while more than 600 women and children participate in therapy at the Counseling Center.
